Saint Paul, MN, November 8, 2021-- Give Us Wings International (GUWI), a nonprofit partnering with people living in extreme poverty in Uganda, announced today that it will be commencing a search for a successor to the organization’s current Executive Director, Therese Anderson, who will be transitioning into retirement in May, 2022. Therese will continue to lead the organization as its Executive Director while the search for a new Executive Director is underway in the first half 2022.

“There are no words for how much Therese means to Give Us Wings,” said Anjie Flowers, Chair of the Give Us Wings International Board of Directors. “Give Us Wings is recognized as a trusted partner in the Twin Cities and Uganda and Therese has been instrumental in this development. We are grateful for Therese’s passion, leadership and unwavering commitment to Give Us Wings and to the people in Uganda.”

Therese was first introduced to Give Us Wings in 2005 and immediately began volunteering in a variety of roles. She went on to have an exceptional career at Give Us Wings. From February 2012 to October 2013, Therese served as Interim Director. When a new Executive Director was hired in October 2013, Therese stayed on as a volunteer. In 2014, Therese was offered and accepted the position of Executive Director and has led Give Us Wings ever since. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised, and many lives have been changed, as a direct result of Therese’s leadership.

Therese organized numerous Give Us Wings volunteer trips to Kenya and Uganda, and visited herself in 2015, 2017 and 2019. While there, Therese exuded her leadership and commitment to Give Us Wings by meeting with staff and building relationships with the people in the local communities.

Therese shared, “I’ve been honored to work alongside the community members and staff in Uganda, as well as the Give Us Wings Board, staff and volunteers here in the US. I am proud of what we have accomplished together with our many generous supporters—always striving toward our shared vision of people in rural Uganda living healthy lives with dignity and hope. I am grateful to have had this opportunity and I am confident that Give Us Wings is well positioned for continued success and meaningful change.”

“Therese’s integrity, strategic thinking and commitment to the mission of Give Us Wings has been invaluable. We are grateful for her contributions and look forward to welcoming the next visionary leader of Give Us Wings,” said Flowers.

Give Us Wings’ Board of Directors has named a special selection committee to oversee the new Executive Director search process. The Board and staff are committed to continuing the great work of Give Us Wings and its Uganda-focused mission with the next Executive Director.  A formal job announcement will be posted soon.
