Fatuma, a member of the Mari Abled group, was an elderly widow who cared for many children in the village despite the past scars she experienced from leprosy. She lived in a rat-infested home for 50 years, where she had to sleep with insects and vermin. In 2012, Fatuma moved with members of the Mari Group, all of whom have disabilities, to a safe, handicap accessible, stable home.
The Mari Village was built with funds from generous Give Us Wings donors. Many people in her community thought of her as the heart and soul of the group. Sadly, Fatuma passed away in June 2018.
