As part of our #GUW20for20 series, we have asked Mary Klauda, one of our devoted supporters, to share her experience: “I have been an extremely proud GUW sponsor to Musana Emmanuel, fondly known as Emma, for the past 5 years. I became his sponsor in 2013 when he was a boy in Tororo Uganda, ready to enter high school. We met on my first volunteer trip. He was shy and sweet, eager to learn. His mother, Eunice, worked at the GUW Uganda office. She wanted a future for her only son, but didn’t have the means to pay for a proper education. She was a hard worker, a doer, so I knew she would ensure that he persist with his studies.”
“On my future trips to Uganda, I was always happy that Emma made time to visit. We climbed the auspicious Rock together a couple of times. Emma continued his studies, graduated from high school. And now, five years later in 2018, he is a student at the Institute of Science and Technology in Kampala, pursuing a diploma in clinical medicine. I just received these amazing photos, showing him at a referral hospital doing malarial tests, as part of his program. It doesn’t get much better, does it? I am honored to be his sponsor; his success is the result of the love and support he received from his mother and from being a part of the Give Us Wings community. I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Emma.” – Mary
