Mary Alice Namono is an orphan who lost both of her parents to AIDS, Mary Alice Namono lived with her aunt in Tororo, Uganda until she forced her into an abusive marriage at age 14. Her education was abruptly stopped due to her marriage and her aunt’s inability to provide for Mary.

With her two babies, Mary Alice escaped to live with her grandmother in nearby Mbale. After much hardship, she was taken on as a sponsored student when Give Us Wings first launched the Family to Family Sponsorship program in 2015.

“I cannot believe this is happening to me! Someone who does not even know me decided to give my life back to me!”

Mary Alice has since then suffered with various health issues, but with GUW’s support, she has been able to receive medical attention. Recently Mary Alice was asked by Give Us Wings Uganda staff to participate as a leader in one of the Children’s Forums. Together the children discussed career goals, and the various challenges and solutions to achieve their own academic, social and emotional goals. Some of the older students, like Mary Alice, shared what it’s meant for them to be part of the Family to Family sponsorship Program. Her disruptions in school have affected her grades but she is a hard worker and has dreams to become a medical doctor and even sponsora student of her own in attempt to show appreciation to her sponsor.
